A structured observation program for international dentists, physicians, allied professionals and students, based in our Minami-Aoyama clinic. We have hosted visiting clinicians one at a time for years. This turns that into a proper course, with pre-reading, an orientation and a closing debrief. Participants watch and ask questions; nobody treats patients.

Learning Outcomes

  • 1Describe, step by step, how a Japanese practice moves from a first visit to a treatment plan.
  • 2Compare the intake, record-keeping and referral routine you observed with how your own system works.
  • 3List what it would take to run the digital workflow you observed in your own clinic.
  • 4Write an implementation note for your own setting and discuss it with the treating clinician on the final day.

Who It Is For

  • Dentists and physicians practising outside Japan
  • Students in dentistry, medicine and related fields
  • Dental hygienists, dental technicians, nurses and other allied professionals
  • No Japanese licence is required, because the program involves no treatment

Curriculum

Day 1: Orientation and first observation day

A briefing on how the clinic is organised, how records are kept, and how safety and confidentiality are handled, then into the operatory.

Day 2: Observation and case discussion

A second day of observation, plus time with the treating clinician on how cases are read and plans are built.

Day 3: Digital workflow and debrief

The digital side of the practice, writing your implementation note, and a closing discussion.
